Individual Attacking: Part 1 of 5

Most Popular - All Time

These videos are done by Jape Shattuck who was one of my instructors at the first coaching school I attended while I was in college. You may not be able to see me this way, but I worked the lunch rush at Burger King near campus to save the money needed for the course. Yeah, I flipped burgers, wore a BK hat, and said “Welcome to Burger King. Can I take your order?” at the drive-thru.

Jape presented his full video series to us as part of his evening lectures at the academy. At the time, the videos were yet to be completed and were raw. The soccer footage is from the mid-1980s so you may get a chuckle out of the length of the shorts and hair. Overall, the videos are dry and lack flashy graphics and background music, but stick with it. If you want to learn the inside workings of soccer, this is a great video series.

As I roll these lessons out to you, sit back and absorb as much as you can. There’s quite a bit to take in so don’t be afraid to stop and rewind to listen and watch a second, third or fourth time. Heck, when I first sat in Jape’s lectures, much of what he said went over my head. But we were able to run through various pieces on the field the next day.

Anyway… here is Individual Attacking: Shooting. Check out the back heel dump pass at the beginning that led to the goal. Now, THAT’S creative soccer!
